Meta's Chief Technology Officer, known internally and publicly as Boz. He joined Facebook in 2006, worked on News Feed, ran the Reality Labs hardware organisation, and became CTO in 2022. He writes long-form at boz.com and has a history of internal memos that leak โ€” the 2016 "The Ugly" memo, which argued Facebook's growth justified its costs, is the one people remember.

He matters to this vault for one move. In March 2026 he created a parallel Applied AI Engineering organisation under Reality Labs VP Maher Saba, reporting to Bosworth rather than to alexandr-wang, who had been installed as Chief AI Officer four months earlier through the Scale AI acqui-hire. Engineers across Meta were reshuffled into Saba's org instead of Wang's Superintelligence Labs. Insiders quoted in meta-ai-employees-miserable describe the split as deliberate rather than accidental duplication โ€” a hedge against SSL, and a signal to staff that the company does not consider SSL its AI organisation of record.

That is a specific and readable form of corporate disagreement: the CTO does not fight the new hire's mandate, he builds a second org next to it and lets headcount vote. It is the structural half of the story meta-platforms tells; the cultural half is the retention numbers and the LeCun quote.
