Mac Classic collects guides, news, and tips for using early Apple computers and Classic Mac OS. The framing on its own homepage is not preservation but use: Mac OS 9 is still capable of many common tasks and can be an excellent distraction-free environment, and for some people these machines are the right tool for the job. That is a different pitch from most vintage-computing sites, which treat old hardware as something to restore and photograph rather than to work on.

The site is careful about one piece of terminology. Classic here means Mac OS versions predating Mac OS X, used loosely. It does not mean the Mac OS Classic Environment, the Mac OS 9 compatibility layer that shipped inside Mac OS X, which the site says it is not focused on. Worth knowing, because the two senses collide constantly in search results. There is a contact page for questions and comments.

What is on file here comes from the homepage blurb alone, so the catalog of guides, the depth of the downloads section, and how often it is updated are all unrecorded. The nearest thing on the wiki in shape is retrocatalog, another single-topic reference site built around usable devices rather than collectible ones. The reason a site like this has to exist at all is the flip side of win32-stable-abi: Windows kept decade-old binaries running well enough that Wine inherited the only stable ABI on Linux, while the Mac line broke its runtime twice, so the software from that era stays reachable mainly through the period hardware and the people who document it.
