With the new Steam Controller now shipping to the lucky few who managed to order one, Valve has released a full set of CAD files for the new hardware so modders can design their own accessories — skins, charging stands, grip extenders, smartphone mounts.
The release covers the external shell ("surface topology") of the Steam Controller and the Puck. Each device gets .STP and .STL files plus an engineering diagram. The diagrams mark areas that must remain uncovered for the device to maintain signal strength and otherwise function as designed.
Valve has done this before — CAD files for the Steam Deck, the Valve Index VR suite, and the original Steam Controller a decade ago. So the release is welcomed but not unexpected.
